If you ever

If you ever
If you ever think that you love me
take a walk in the warm breath of a sunny day.
Go to the seashore under a wide blue sky,
or trace the gray horizon in the distant mist.
Notice the quivering wildflowers
spreading their scent in the breeze
while you let your mind drift clear of everything
but the present, the timeless moment.
If you ever think that you love me
look within yourself with gentle eyes.
Look at yourself through my eyes,
then look within me as I look within you.
We are searching, seeking, hoping...
If ever you think that you love me
look for the flowers, the mist, and the sky.
Look for the scent and sounds of nature's clarity
and if you find these things in me
as I have found them in you,
know that I will leave you, nevermore.
