My Church

My Church
Sunday, the Sabbath, for church and for prayers
New clothes adorn all with late winter layers
Sitting, and kneeling, and standing when singing
Well-worn recitals the organ is bringing.
Through stained glass and clouds, the sun shines in colors
Church funding issues bring us to the dollars
The rummage and bake sale, a raffle once more:
New carpet, the heater, the broken front door.
Financial disclosures, bequests and pledges
Each week toward ruin, the budget edges
So open your hymnal and let us all pray
Eschew money changers, the Bible does say
Communion and blessings, may all go in peace
Thank God this is ended, so find we release.
Tomorrow, the next day, from God we feel safe
Till next week's accounting religion won't chafe
And proudly proclaiming religion's own zeal
Conservative voters our faith we reveal.
My dear fellow humans I was one like you
Till one day I found God when not in a pew
She lives in all nature and deep within me
By starlight and daylight, a lake and a tree
My church is about me, I pray every day
For flowers and sunsets within people stay
Divinity praising my heart fills with joy
I seek to convince none for my faith is coy.
So please do forgive my intrusion today
May God shed Her blessing on all every day
And may we find comfort, though silent my call
Avoiding all labels, with love towards all.
