The Cost Of Living

I can feel it now, that pinch from behind
Just below the waist, of the monetary kind.
The coast of living, upon my bottom stings
For the puppet masters, are in rule of my strings.
It’s the people in power, that create the poor
So they know who they are, when they need more.
Toiling every day, so that I can stay off the street,
Doing what I can, as long as the cat has enough to eat.
We’re in this Matrix of green, that shackles us all,
A prison for our minds, to keep us small;
For there are more of us, than there are of them,
So they keep the price of it all, as high as they can.
To occupy ourselves with the worry to survive,
So that it’s all that matters, their place to hide.
Raising the bar just a bit more, when ahead you start getting
But such is the purpose, of the cost of living.

Author's Notes: "We have stricken the (slave) shackles from four million human beings and brought all laborers to a common level not so much by the elevation of former slaves as by practically reducing the whole working population, white and black, to a condition of serfdom. While boasting of our noble deeds, we are careful to conceal the ugly fact that by an iniquitous money system we have nationalized a system of oppression which, though more refined, is not less cruel than the old system of Chattel slavery."
