Sara, Pure one,
whom before thee the world
doth bend its knee in reverence;
your heart setting afire the world of men
who would but dream of being thy suitor.
I am powerless before thee;
your silken breath,
that carries your words, ever so lightly,
adorned in exquisite Persian colours;
melting even the coldest ice
in subterranean places within my soul, frosted over with loss;
places I thought I had hidden well from all who dared look.
The rivers of melting ice
Lead me to bathe within an ocean of pain and bliss
at the want of you.
Your skin of rich sweet Carmel, firmly set upon thy form
Reflects the mesmerizing images of the east:
Desert sands of golden brown,
Stories of adventure and love,
of passion and desire,
all of which has caught me unaware,
To which I have found myself reeling in a state of enchantment,
having misplaced the heavens above me,
and the earth below my feet.
I give in and fall to my knees,
begging the mercy of Allah
that he might ease my pain
at the sight of you being trapped
behind a glass of culture and faith;
a place which I can never go, nor ever be.
Be merciful to me Sara, thou pure one.
Thou who art the dream of angels
when they wish to heal the world,
and bring about joy and peace.
For it is that dream you have awakened in me
Princess of my soul,
That I might see the light of day
In the dark of night;
your name lighting my way.

Author's Notes: I wrote this one for my friend Sara from Iran whose name means pure. Though we enjoy each others company, she is a Shiite Muslim and is limited in her freedoms by her family and religion to which now she is questioning. It is my hope that she is always safe and finds happiness. She is 30 and has never known a man before or anything outside of Islam. Poor thing must be just burning up inside. She has the beauty and integrity of a princess and deserves everything her heart desires. It is my hope also that she can find her way out of her prison of culture and get on with the life she wants to live without having her brother stalk her everywhere she goes.
