Love-filled Heart or In Over My Head?

I promised you that I would be there for you.
I pulled out out of the darkness many times.
I swore I would never let any harm come unto you.
Now He has entered both our lives.
Yours once again, hell-bent on vengeance.
Naturally, I step in between you two.
I stare into the eyes of this monster.
I won't let him take you away from us.
He stares back at me, malace burning in his eyes.
A tiny voice questions my faith.
"Is your life worth this futile defense?
You know he's more powerful than you are.
Yet you still stand there defending her. Why?
You talk big, but you know who you really are.
You know you're in over your head."
Maybe so, but I'm still defending you.
I must make sacrifices just so you don't surrender.
I won't turn you over to this monster.
I may die bleeding in your arms,
I may suffer with everything lost,
But I know I'll still have your friendship.
If He does kill me, what good will it do?
I don't fear death, and you know too,
Even in death, your strength and mine will prevail
Author's Notes: My friend is going through a dilema. I promised I would defend her, I just don't know the cost. But I won't give her up that easily. That's true friendship.
