A Ballad of Broken Wings

by Nyx Sange
 Age Group: Adult

A fallen angel made a stand. To try to be redeemed. And fly to such a place of joy. A place he could only have dreamed.
The grounded angel stayed on Earth. He’s cursed with broken wings. He missed the wind, how it would cool He missed how it could sing.
The lonely angel wept and wept. He looked up for a prayer, And sympathy, they never grant, But unto him, they glare.
Fly away! Fly away! Fly! O, fly! Your broken wings must try.
The crying angel looked above, I heard his solemn call, Two other angels heard his plea And promised to heal all.
The willing angel made his choice, And gave the first his love And she returned her love to him Love flying like a dove.
The loving angel asked to stay, With her who wished to heal, But yet her love would not last long. And her he’d no more feel.
The frightened angel heard the cries, And watched his first love fall. She drowned within undying love, But still, he tried to call.
Fly away! Fly away! Fly! O, fly! Your broken wings must try.
The saddened angel wept again. To him, the second came. She gave him her security, And he was whole again.
The sighing angel was not pleased. He wished to see the world, But she would not let him explore, His soul could not unfurl.
The rebel angel tried to leave But still she longed for him. She pinned him down so he would stay. Three times, her blade went in.
Fly away! Fly away! Fly! O, fly! Your broken wings must try.
The fading angel pushed her back She left him there to die. The apathetic lover heard His pained and mournful cries
The dying angel laid back down Betrayed, he wished for death. And when I asked to heal his soul, He did refuse my breath.
The somber angel wandered on, But followed still, I did, And he ignored my warming light. “Adieu, ” he’d always bid.
The missing angel tried to hide. He filled my heart with fear, Destroying all that dare come close, But still, I would come near.
Fly away! Fly away! Fly! O, fly! Your broken wings must try.
The screaming angel came to me. “What do you want from me? I can’t accept nor care for you. And from my arms, you’ll flee.
This zombie angel failed in love. The first one left me weak. I loved her so, but hands of death, Took her unto his peak.
This angered angel tried again. The second one was worse. She kept me in and soon abused And made my soul a curse.
This longing angel cannot love. What do you hope to give? Would you abandon me as well And never let me live?”
Fly away! Fly away! Fly! O, fly! Your broken wings must try.
The shrieking angel glared at me. “I know that you’re in pain. I understand you don’t want love For fear of pain again.
O weeping angel, shed no tear. I’ve also been abused. I have been stabbed, I have been beat. And yes, I have been used.
You ominous angel, understand. I want to heal as well. If you let me, I’ll heal you too. I’ll bring you up from Hell.”
The bawling angel then broke down And took me in his arms. “Why are you willing to save me And keep me from all harm?”
“O wanting angel, don’t ask that.” I fixed his broken wings. And soon we flew above the earth Among the gods and kings.
