Masquarade

by Nyx Sange
 Age Group: Adult

It was all for that one night, When the Masquarade began. I put on my mask, So you would not see my pain. I donned a red dress, Looking like a rose after the rain. But the thorns were jabbing me. My nails were painted in blood; They were too smooth and dirty underneath. My hair had been massacred, Cut sorter in many places by loathsome blades. The garder with your charm, strangled my leg. I could feel it going numb. And my feet were being choked to death, But I couldn't take them off. This is the price I paid for you. You came unto me, And saw me struggling to breathe. You, a God above others, coming to a child, Who is fighting to live this one night In a Masquarade, with you. You took my hand into your grasp, And the thorns receeded into the dress. My nails no longer seemed bloody, My hair grew out to look elegant instead of ratty, My garder losened its hold on me. And my shoes let my feet inhale life. You took off my mask, but you didn't see my pain. It was gone. Your touch healed me, and made me feel, Truly elegant, as you said. The Masquarade is over, But the Ball has just begun...
Author's Notes: Prom night for me. I was a wreck before my date arrived. But he made my night worthwhile... and I thank him for that.
