Assult on my Heart

I had to leave my Heart at the door.
Only the mind and body were allowed in.
My Heart told me it would be alright.
"I'll just take a nap.
God knows I need it."
I could see the sorrow
Desperately trying to hide itself.
The guilt was rising within me.
We were both wearing masks
And we both knew it,
Yet somehow we knew, things would be alright.
I went inside with my mind and body
To train myself to be better.
To protect those in need.
We practiced screaming for assistance
Then amongst our screams,
We heard another that was out of place.
We laughed at the rogue scream
And kept on training.
But what was missing within me
Was trying to call out to me.
Something was very wrong.
I came back outside
To reclaim my Heart,
But my heart came to me... wounded.
A gash had been marked on my Heart.
Someone had come and made that gash.
It was the scream we all heard earlier.
That phantom scream that attacked my Heart.
The gash on my Heart let the guilt consume me.
Had I not left my Heart outside all alone,
None of this would have happened.
I never would have heard the scream.
Driving my Heart home, I saw the tears
Flooding out of both our eyes.
My Heart thought everything was ruined.
I thought I had ruined everything.
My Heart comforted me saying I did what I could
And that I still managed to help heal.
I told my Heart not shed tears for me.
I told my Heart that I'd always be there
And never to doubt our love.
My Heart embraced me and cried in my arms.
While I cried a river of thankfulness.
Author's Notes: I'm just glad my Heart is still alive. Things could have been a whole lot worse. To my Heart, I love you so much.
