As a human

Age Group: Adult
Born as a human,
I remember nothing of my past.
Only what I was told and in my stories.
Tales of my dark-haired love,
Who would follow me even in death.
The world I was told
Was all so surreal, but I believed
It was once my life.
This would explain my comfort in the darkness.
I fell in love with it.
Born as a human,
I found little sanctuary in others.
I mistook infatuation for security.
If anything, I only grew more empty.
I had lost my original love through time's river.
I had to swim through its torrents
To find what I had lost.
To find my love once again and feel whole.
This would explain my love for water.
I've been swimming for ages.
Born as a human,
I have too many emotions.
Some that send me soaring,
Some that send me reeling.
It is because I have too many emotions
That my humanity is, in a sense, ironic.
I had to feel so much
In order to love what I once loved.
This would explain my irony.
I am emotionally... inhuman.
