Last Minute Fears

Three days away
And I fear so much.
They're taking me away to fix me.
I'm scared of what will happen.
I've talked to many who've done it before,
So why am I not comforted?
I still feel like something will go wrong.
Is this normal?
Does everyone feel this way
Before someone goes inside you
And takes away a part of you?
I've been told to make it fun.
They tell me to count backwards
And see how far I can get before I'm gone.
They tell me that it will be over before I know it.
It will only feel like I've been sleeping
For only two measly minutes.
So why am I still afraid?
What if after I can't count back anymore,
I become truly gone?
What if when I sleep, I lose something I need?
What if when I am aware, I can't move anymore?
What if I'm worse than I was before?
So many fears and questions swim around my head.
I'm scared to death of what could happen.
All I know is that the last thing I want to see
Before I lose myself in sleep or death
Is the face of someone I love
So I know that somehow, I will wake up.
I will be better and I will not leave,
And then I can surrender unto sleep
Author's Notes: I'm having surgery to take care of my back and I'm really nervous. If anyone could give me some advice, that would be very helpful to me.
