A Journey to the Plane of Fragrance

Heartstrokes succor my faint
Self dispersal, pain washes me ashore
Soul journey into the
Core of the World Tree of Life
Heartwood tunnel lined
With delicate teeming microstructures
Burst forth into velvety flowers
Tiniest of veins drink up
My tired blood when my lungs
Open up to the scent of life
Like sand drinking the breaking main.
The seeds of life become
Blooms of Utter Being
I am surrounded by divine fragrance
Wafting in and out
I forget so easily why I came here
In the musk of Samsara
Spores rise cloudlike
Between my eyes and the living
And shadows flutter
But in my heart
I know the knower's secret
I inhale deeply and fall backward
Seeing the shadowy forms of
Wildflowers against the light in my eyes
All breath is pure and elevates me
When I creep against the skin
Of the slime-covered body of the
Great Shapeshifter pushing upward
As the center of the World Tree.
I am drawn from the ocean
Of nectars feeding the world of worlds
Pulled out like a tendril
Shooting upward.
I sacrifice continuous blissful sedation
for one moment at the skies -
Out of darkness into light.
I am the scent you remember
The song your Mother sang
When you were yet in the womb.
Oh, a certain something something
None of us can ever explain.
Am I seedling or offshoot?
I am the taste of paradise
I know and have not forgotten.
Author's Notes: This poem accompanies a type of breathing meditation in which one focuses on the heart chakra. It's a bit of a mix between a shamanic journey to the hollow heartwood center at the core of the World Tree and an attunement to the "plane of fragrance."
