Mother Dearest

Mother dearest, who has raised me so well
I've come to ask you something.
Just a few simple quetions
With only one of two answers necessary.
I hope you can do that.
Mother dearest, do you think of me as a lump of clay
To which you can mold me
Into whtever you please?
Are you so repulsed by what you see
That you have to distort me into something else?
Mother dearest, do you curse my Goddess
Because I believe in Her too and not only Him?
Must you revive the Inquisition on others like me
And call yourself a true Catholic
While you crucify the faithful pagans?
Mother dearest, do you think I was lobotomized
And my intelligence was deformed?
Did you think I was diseased
When I slipped an inch in class
Even though I excelled in all the rest?
Mother dearest, do you even realize
That your vision is defective?
Can you only see me as
A distugting, growing lump of flesh
While others see me beautiful?
Mother dearest, do you like abusing me
Without any physical blows
Just to vent your anger on me?
Do you hate yourself that much
That you transfer your pain to me?
Mother dearest, are you truly so cold
That you make Father cry and not care?
Do you occupy yourself so you don't have to deal
With Sister's alcoholism or Brother's rage
Or even my sorrow?
Mother dearest, do you hate what I am
Because I'm not who you want me to be?
Do you wish you had a prettier, smarter,
Slimmer, more popular, more succesful
Daughter... like the mother you think you are?
