The Doubter's Remedy

How do you know
If the person under your arm, or over your shoulder
Is the one you truly desire?
Not lust for, only to be disappointed
Or throw it away once you've finished.
Not play with like a toy or a servant
Forcing them to bend to your every whim.
Not just long for because you want a relationship
Just to see what it's like to be loved for once.
How do you know
If the person you desire and care for so much
Has the same feelings for you?
Not using you to further their benefits
And make you their slave.
Not making a bet out of you to prove to friends
They can manipulate others easily.
Not loving you, but your body only
And wants to please it only.
Tell me then,
When you first see them, do you feel something lift off your shoulders?
When you first fall into their arms, do you feel safe?
When you kiss them, do you feel the warmth?
If you first doubt, which speaks louder: your head or your heart?
When you leave them, do you feel a part of yourself leaving?
When you dream, how often is it about them?
When you tell them of your dreams, are their dreams similar?
When you lust for them, is it because you love them?
When you speak to them, can your heart tell you what they'll say?
When the thought of losing them comes, does the will to fight for them strengthen?
When death is ready to take them, is every tear for every happy memory?
When doubt plagues your heart, does your heart still scream their name?
