Hymn to Old Ignis/Agni

Clarified the eastern flame
Like serpents with ten-thousand tails –
In a hidden voice speaks its own name
And undulates on tempest gales.
Upward-lifting spark of gold,
You are the door to the divine.
Dancer of the days of old,
You speak the ways of the eyes of mind.
Twin pillared wisdom – two in one!
Conmingled moon with tempered sun
Thou art the door to the divine
And the path to inner peace of mind.
Up-ward lifting sacred hue
Golden plumed on an eye of blue
Is the eye that stares beyond the star
That blinds the truth of what we are.
Pale and beautious white moon;
Yet golden shining like the sun;
Twin-imaged candle – you are two;
Yet in the truth your form is one!
Sacred nothing – sacred whole
Between two flames that wound the skies,
When two wicks form your single soul
Then watch ten-thousand things arise!
Ten thousand snakes on diamond trails
Eating the heel inside their tails –
Like flames move to the watching one
And melt like diamonds in the sun.
How brilliant you soon arise!
With the door of spirit in your eyes!
When the wick is gone and the flame is whole,
Your light finds peace in the watching soul.
