On the Tailltean Mounds

Come! Raise the glass
And taste the host -
Break out the
Laughter-gushing boast!
With melody the games ensue
On the tawny hills against the blue -
In lion-strides move through our door
To honor those who came before!
Boast of the dead
And taste the quaff
With those who live
For those who laugh.
Not all of us were here to stay,
Some burning up along the way,
But long before we see the end
We hear the joy of a toasting friend.
Toast us well until we die,
And let our eyes move past the sky
In the setting sun that's full of heat,
To the first-fruit fullness of the wheat.
When fruit from bushes lush is stored
And the wine is crushed for the vineyard Lord,
Ripe and rich all souls descend
In a passing likeness of the end.
The Mother of the Mound awaits
Sleeping, guarding summer's gates.
Where lions dream and storms suffice
Through the threat of life's mock-sacrifice.
Drink the blood still filled with fire -
Intoxicated with desire.
Eat the bread, this body's yours -
And just one taste of life endures.
One headrush of these wild scents
Suffused with summer's decadence
Like a burning man, col'rs me with fire
Stronger than August Eve's desire.
Lughnasadh has come again
Toasting peace and good will toward men.
Let friend and kin drink these things up,
From the bottom of auld Lammas' cup.
