Alban Elfed - Mabon

The light is surely leaving
The western shade is gone,
When the sun smiles from another shore
And dreams of another dawn.
Your rosy warmth is a comfort
But the wind is growing cold
And I know in my heart the day is night
And the young are surely old.
These pools are too deep for salmon
Swimming the light of a dream
And the harvest moon is rounding
At the end of each shining stream.
So let red leaves
Sink drifting kiss
To ripple
Across the wide abyss.
Say, “Have I been peering, gazing
In that river my whole life?
Then there’s nothing left to fear
No frenzied waves to call my strife…”
If you thank life when it’s over
That it’s never what it seems
Then you’ll see it’s just an autumn brook
And a perfect dream reflecting dreams.
Its light is too tranquil
Its trance too deep
So time arrests
In the wake of sleep….
I know in the dance I was turning
In my dreams, I was almost gone
When I joined the beauty in my eye
At Alban Elfed, Mabon.
