A long drive with a lost love

by Aleksandr Place
 Age Group: Adult

I don't care where we're going, I just need to get away. Thanks for coming with me But you know you could have stayed.
I'm alone so much I'm used to it, But I like you being here, Someone to relive memories with Like our night down at the pier...
I'll bet you thought that I forgot The words you told me then. Honestly... here's a secret... I'd like to hear them again.
But now it's almost three am, And we're running low on gas... Should we call this our destination. Or should we just drive past?
No, I don't know where we are, But it's far away from home. Go back if you want, I'll stay here, In this jungle made of stone...
Of course I'll write, I know you'll call And you'll be on my mind. But I just can't say I love you. It wouldn't be true this time...
Author's Notes: I love posting my poems, and I decided that the first I'll post will be one of my favourites. This was something I wrote after a talk I had with a close friend I had at the time. She and I had once been a couple, and it seemed to make the friendship that much better, and when I told her I was leaving the city, [had some plans, they didn't work out] she begged me to take her with me. I told her that I wouldn't be coming back. Still she begged me not to leave without her. My thoughts were all in a jumble, and I was stressed about alot of things, and she was just trying to make it so I didn't feel so alone, but I could only think about her boyfriend, and how I saw her treat her so badly, and the way she kept running back to him kinda made me lose a little respect for her...
I wrote this later that night:
