The Calling

by Shouting Mountain

Age Group: Adult

Unsuspecting I lay upon the table.
Ancient spirits poised and able,
Listening for the blessed appeal.
The hands are touching me for to heal.

Witches burned on Friday the Thirteenth,
Are asked to join us for their loving peace.
The words are spoken half in shadow.
A sudden wind blows in the window!

The healer never felt such vibrant power.
The neighbor's dog howls on the hour.
Out of the Earth and the Goddess they adore,
They rise by the thousands through the floor!

From foot to heart to hand to myself in awe,
I lay in rapture filling with love and ancient law.
Daughters of the Earth Goddess strong and tender,
Your mighty presence begs my humble surrender.

Out the door I feel lost and not quite stable.
The world is unfamiliar and seems like a fable.
What is within me that has just awoken?
There is a loving truth as yet unspoken.

Trusting to their loving touch,
I accept their guidance trusting much.
A blessing ever much be known,
The seeds of new understanding have been sown.

Realm of wonders three by three,
Stick and broom and cauldron come to me.
Daughters bring me to the Pagan Nation.
I now stand skyclad for my initiation.

All is new and all is old.
I never knew I could be so bold.
Holding the wand close to my heart,
Merrily I meet and merrily I part.

Cast the circle with the sabbat moon.
The Daughters swirl and make me swoon.
I am a witch with the healing light,
Never has my destiny felt so right.

Author's Notes: I was called to the craft during a healing. Becoming a witch was far from my mind. Looking back I realize how significant the event was and it inspired me to write this poem. Having thus been summoned to the craft of the wise I feel very humble and obligated to honor the blessing with my very best efforts.
