Short Story : The Meaning of Religion

I put on a waistjacket and hat and make out for the path. Along the way there are signs, mailboxes and birds.
At the end of the path there is a hill. At the top of the hill there is a view overlooking a full, green earth.
It is summer, and this is paradise on earth, if ever such a thing existed. A balmy breeze pushes in drawing the remembrance of scent. The taste of strawberries, the smell of clovers.
I overlook the valleys and green hills. A thin fog surrounds their mountains, creating a vast echoing morning silence, taut like a drum.
"Goddess..." I pray. The wind quickens. There is Wisdom everywhere I look.
"What is religion? If we come from the absolute, why isn't it shown? When Christians have hope through a Bible, what could anyone else have?"
"Look..." voices the wind in its open throat, "inside yourself..." It pulls me like an internal vacuum, there is a voice on the inside.
"Goddess..." I pray. The wind quickens. Rabbits are playing in a close thicket, unaware of my presence. There is a chickadee in a cedar bush calling to its mate.
"Why don't men pray to you? Why have all the languages of the world translated God but never Goddess?"
"I am Wisdom..." breathes the voice. "Look..." it screeches in a glorified whisper, "inside yourself."
"Goddess..." I pray. The wind quickens. A bolt of energy flies through me and I race along the wind.
I am panting, my arms outstretched racing toward the fence on the side of a hill. I imagine a point ahead of me, and a vast opening horizon."
"What is the meaning of religion and life? If it's only connecting to others, then haven't we done that already, aren't we complete and part You?"
All around me nature stirs. A tunnel of wind follows behind me and I emerge amid a village of knotted old, woody lime trees on the side of the heath.
A woman appears at the entrance bearing decorated branches, wearing the dress of ancestors. In a still whisper barely audible she leans in. Stops. Says only to me, "I am the answer inside of you. I am Wisdom. Look inside yourself..."
