Hallow's Eve

by Sunshine RunningWolf
 Age Group: Adult

It started in the misty morn of a sweet harvest Hallows As we ate pumpkin pie to mourn the witches' gallows It was sweet as fall morning dew on the tip of a tongue And the fresh fall air was refreshing to a sleepy lung Our cider was hot as the fire in the grate As we tumbled through leaves in a child-like state.
The sky was cloudy, a pewter grey haze As we played cat's cradle and ran through the maze Our sweaters were soft as a mother wolf's fur And as we snuggled to watch apple dunking we let out a purr All through the house the merriments went And we scorned the Christian solemn days of lent
Joyous and full-bellied were we As harvest went on, and we recited the rule of three Corn dolls were common and there was squash stew As the supper cauldron bubbled a wondrous brew And we burned leaves for the scent and love As the pewter skies swirled happily above
Pumpkins were picked and plucked As the little ones for a midday nap were in-tucked And lunch was delicious as we sat with kith and kin And we giggled at the ebony kittens tumbling and making a din All around the leaves were falling And the thought of the day ending was straight appalling
The dusk sky rumbled a growling song And we lay by the hearth, warm where we belong The kittens all curled up on our toes As the storm blew hard in its tumultuous throes And as we slowly sank into sleep The wiccans of old danced in the deep.
Our day of love and play was at an end, As the moonlight over the trees began to bend The harvest was plenty and full to our liking And this year was once again ever-so striking In daylight we reveled, and in sleep we began The Celtic cycle of rebirth once again.
