As you lay dying

Age Group: Adult
As you lay dying,
I walk in see you on the ground crying,
Tears corrupted by seeping blood,
As I cradle you hoping for the best,
You cough up red,
I go for the phone to call for help,
You grab me with your ever limpening arms,
Saying no because by the time they get there,
That you would be dead,
I did not believe that,
Even when you put my hand on your chest,
Feeling your heart beat frantically,
I tried my best not to cry as your blood ran,
As your blood ran on my hand,
As you say good bye,
You are cut short,
You had drowned,
I did not want to admit,
But like you said while you laid there dying,
Stay with me for a few more moments,
For in those oh so precious few moments you were dead.
