American Way

It's late at night, the traffic's light, and I'm wonderin'...
Why people don't care about their world anymore...
The guns are blastin, there's children cryin',
there's hate and hunger, corrupt people in power
Yet the radio's givin the "all clear"
But ya know, there's gotta be a solution
To the problems we all face everyday
There's gotta be - there's gotta be a solution...
That's just the "American way"...
The kids today, they don't care about tomorrow
They live in the now don't care about the past.
Well somewhere someone got the lines crossed.
Cos there's too many people out there who are lost.
White picket fences, a dog in the yard, and nice big house
The american dream wrapped neatly in a box
Tears fallen, people torn, black smoke in the sky
A shallow grave...too poor for a box.
The flags are flyin, tattered and worn,
dead bodies layin'...on the ground and there's no one around...no support to be found
All for one, and one for all, you called me "brother"
I'll write home to your mother...
About how ya saved me in the line of fire
you gave your life, so that others could live
You came up...came up with a solution...
that's just the "American way".
Author's Notes: This was written on a late cold night. Most of my friends are military and have been in some pretty nasty situations. This is for those that found a solution.... even if it meant the greatest sacrifice....
