Dead Center

Sitting alone in a
cold hearted hotel room
Southern winds blow
across my heart
80's on the T.V.
Cellphone doesn't phase me
Soda and nicotine to ease the pain
Rock's great, but not this part
When there's a hole the size of space-
enveloping your heart
You'd think that solitude
would be a pleasure...
Instead the TV tunes
create a Mortal Measure
Powerballads take me to a place
I wish I could run to... (hold note)
Yet instead, I want to run straight to you.....
Different night, different city...
Missin you, Missin Gritty..... (hold strumming)
"I don't want to miss a thing"
Baby you're "Dead Center", But not here
I check the messages
And then I shed a tear
I love this life
It's who we are....
But time apart
creates a big scar
To know I'm here, and you're there...
I still can feel you're not that far...
Hear me, feel me, sense me
Know nomatter where I am
I'm there in your arms,
"Dead Center"
Author's Notes: Sometimes people cross your path for reasons that are completely unknown. Sometimes the reason is found, sometimes not. Someone entered my life on 9/2/03 that has opened many new doors in my life. We are identical in many ways, and I have come to love him as a fellow musican, best friend, and all around intense human being.
I was on tour for two nights in York, PA. I had the hotel room to myself since the rest of the band was arriving the next day. My mind wasn't in York. It was in Atlanta, GA. I wrote this in regards to Grant Dawson; the man, the myth, the legend...
It's one thing to know that when you're together wonderful things can happen. It's another to know that no matter where you are, when you both are into doing the same things, same mindsets, distance means absolutely nothing.
