It Comes in the Clouds

Cool dripping shivers
a long fingernail
down the spine
an unexpected breath
in an ear
a whisper
from another room,
a whisper,
from behind you,
a whisper
in your ear.
A whisper.
It comes in the clouds,
it lives in the thunder,
it is here with the rain.
I am here.
Says the whisper.
I give life,
I take life.
I nourish,
I drown.
You know me,
you have tasted me,
I have held your soul
in my ebbing hands,
and felt your heartbeat
skipping away like a stone
sinking,
sinking,
before it stirred.
I am here,
it says,
I am here.
It comes in the clouds.
