My Guardian

I see your face in my dreams,
I feel your strength coursing through my veins.
Oh, but how I long to be with you--
To bury my face deep in your cape.
Those haunting golden eyes call to me,
Beckon to me from the beyond.
I can sense you begging for release,
But all in good time.
In my dreams I become you.
Paws lighter than air,
Eyes that burn through the night.
I can beat the wind!
Oh, how I have longed for this--
Craved this change!
Fangs that gleam in the moonlight,
Fur of silver to match the moon’s glow.
Tail out, muscles bunching,
Faster and faster I run.
A leap of joy, a snarl of pleasure.
I am free; free to be me!
Ears back, I chase the wind.
My thick fur rippling in the breeze
As just beyond I hear the call--
The call of my guardian.
Author's Notes: I have had several dreams of becomming or being a wolf, and there are sooo many times I have felt rather "wolfish" or perhaps just canine in general. But always I have had the craving to run free, nose to the wind!
