Masks

It is the masks that I hide behind.
One part the moon, the other the sun.
They help hide my secrets
From prying eyes.
She, the mama moon
Watches me at night,
Contributing to my rites.
He, the father sun, scolds me
For what I have done.
So it is because of this,
I must hide behind two masks.
I must play the game,
The game that society asks.
In the light,
I will play the good little girl
That doesn't do anything bad
Or do things that make you sad.
Though, when the night falls
And the moon is up in the sky,
I will practice my rites
That I believe is right.
I'll keep hiding behind two masks,
To keep people thinking of what to ask.
Am I a good witch or a bad witch?
If you know the answer of the masks
You will no longer have to ask.
Author's Notes: This is an old poem that I wrote in an English class back when I was in high school. During this time I was having conflicting emotions due to my chosen path. I kept asking myself, do I want people to know what path I walk? Or should I keep silent...
