Volcano

The earth rumbled, shook and shivered
Men ran around with hearts that quivered
Then the volcano vomited earth and fire
It seemed the mountain had become a pyre
When the pyro-plastique hit many thousands died
They left this life as they begged, pleaded and cried
One wonders if it was by the design of old fate
That there attempts to flee were futile and too late
So many spirits crossing over all at the same time
Were the dreams of each one not worth a dime?
Some loved, some hated and some were just alive
Across the veil, do they still now dream and strive
What of our hopes and plans, our joys and fears
That which we have experienced of love and tears
Are they all to be wiped out in an instant, a flash?
Leaving no record of our life’s mad, frantic dash
Where is the free will and intent of each soul?
Old fate seems to erase it along with every goal
So of our path through life, how much is our say?
Or is there some doomsday clock naming our last day?
