Call First: Over the Past 8 Years Witchvox has featured over 2.000 local shops. During that time ONLY 3 shops have informed us that they were closed, hundreds never bothered, much to the frustration of customers that drove to the shop only to find it 'out of business'... We highly recommend that you CALL Local shop listings before you make the trip. - Witchvox Staff

Located in: London, England
Shop Profile: Treadwell's Bookshop is in the middle of the historic, central, Covent Garden area of London. We are an intimate and cozy bookshop with a rather baroque atmosphere -- look out for the antique prints on the walls, the carved oak book-cases, the oriental carpets and the legendary chaise longue (christened 'The Browsers' Sofa') .
Treadwell's specialise in history, witchcraft, Wicca, comparative religion, paganism, ceremonial magic, mythology, literature, antiquity, astrology, divination, herbalism, drama, culture, art and travel. We stock rare and out-of-print volumes, incuding first editions, not least a good selection of Gerald Gardner and Dion Fortune first editions.
Our staff are friendly and educated in matters both cultural and esoterical. We pride ourselves on helping people find the right book for their needs. Londoner Abigal Reid is our expert on British folklore, anthropology, folk music, ballads and traditional storytelling. Kathy Hunnicut, educated at Berkeley, is specialises in literature and rare books. Alison Brice, a New Orleans native, is published in ecriture feminine area of literary criticism, and has a personal longstanding interest in Afro-Caribbean magical traditions. Our Kabbalah specialist is Ed Turner, raised in the Anglo-Jewish community; his is our man for all aspects of Jewish mysticism. Christina Oakley is an academic historian with a long interest in modern paganism, in particular Wicca and cunning folk magic. George Sieg is the gnosticism and Near East specialist: he has completed a Master's Degree at SOAS focusing on ancient near eastern magical belief.
The Treadwell's Lecture Series, an annual programme of talk-seminars, has had speakers from Cambridge, Yale, Oxford, and other universities: the topics are always on issues of the history or anthropology of magic or paganism. Other talks are given by respected longstanding practitioners of pagan and magical traditions. For those looking for hands-on engagement, we host workshops, classes, and field trips.
