Call First: Over the Past 8 Years Witchvox has featured over 2.000 local shops. During that time ONLY 3 shops have informed us that they were closed, hundreds never bothered, much to the frustration of customers that drove to the shop only to find it 'out of business'... We highly recommend that you CALL Local shop listings before you make the trip. - Witchvox Staff

I'd like to leave this here for just three weeks, to let everyone know that we are looking for a new site; but we may end up as a traveling / mobile / convention store for a little while. I will delete this notice in three weeks if we have not found a suitable permanent replacement location.

ARTICLE:
East Pittsburgh's Resource Center is Pittsburgh's Best Kept Secret - Turtle Island Resource Center Could Start a New Trend in Customer Convenience

Clinging to the shirttails of a faltering economy is a whisper of a grass roots movement striving to make a difference. Travis Jones and Rebekah Faith, step to the front lines and offer a vibrant sanctuary coupled with a myriad of services to help.

Turtle Island in East Pittsburgh is a small little hole in the wall nestled on the Electric Avenue exit of Route 30. Like all great and magical places, it’s rather difficult to find. If you blink, you’ll miss it.

Once you enter the store you are hit with the pleasant, yet subtle fragrance of lavender, Egyptian musk, or Jasmine. You will see a variety of hand crafted jewelry, paintings, chainmaille items, Egyptian Papyrus art, African masks, candles, incense, oils, theatre props and various items from around the globe. Next, you might notice the computers. Finally, you might notice the books and CDs. The owners will welcome you to their sanctuary, offer you comfortable seating, and ask what they can do for you.

Turtle Island offers wireless access, computers, meeting space, LARP and RPG events, workshops, appointments for massage, computer help, resume help, coaching, and job search help. Their mini-bookstore includes books on Spiritual, Inspirational, Metaphysical, Magic, Self-Help, Languages, Diet, Fitness, and World Philosophy. Not only do they provide wireless access, but they also have computers available for their customers to use and language, gaming and study CDs available.

The owners are committed to not only working with the general public to help them find what they need, but also assisting the community’s artists, entrepreneurs, and group leaders. Their goal is to support the community by offering their store, schedule permitting, for small gatherings, workshops, classes, exhibits, and social events for a small nominal fee. Bellydancing, Yoga, and Meditation are just a few of the workshops that can be found on premises.

Turtle Island is the only place in Pittsburgh where you can come in, use the computers, browse the daily paper, check out the bulletin board of local upcoming events, read a book, get a 10 minute massage, have a resume re-written, get a flier designed, support your local artists, get help on the computer, learn a language, play a game, print, fax, laminate, or pick up henna, oils, herbs, gaming, or aromatherapy supplies, all under the same roof.

A resource center like this may be a new concept and one that may take some getting used to, but with such a vibrant and positively charged atmosphere and such a range of capabilities, Turtle Island is definitely the spot to watch.

One of the store’s regular customers was quoted as saying, “They did such a good job with this place I just don’t want to tell anyone about it. Turtle Island is the place where I come to get away from it all.”

Well, how can we keep a secret like that?
