Pam was born in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory in the mid-‘50’s. She followed her parents around to various communities until just before she turned six, moving to Edmonton with her mom and two sisters. They gained a step-dad and relocated to the interior of BC just three short years later.
Raised earth-honouring, Pam’s journey of self-discovery began when she was 14. She had a fascination for world religions and spirituality. Her sensitivity and awareness at times was challenging until she learned to strengthen her core and learn that self-care is paramount to working with people. She was always fascinated with herbs and folk remedies, thinking she might become a nurse or a teacher. She’s always felt she has a foot in both the esoteric world and the “real” world. Pam is keenly interested in indigenous practices, including shamanism, local traditional food and medicine cultures.
She returned to the North as an adult to re-embrace her roots. Training with elders in Northern Alberta and the Yukon in throughout the ‘70’s and ‘80’s has especially rounded out her perspectives and enhanced her approach for working in the Ministry of Children & Families.
Pam arrived in Victoria via Japan where she had been teaching English in 1989 and has been gainfully employed with the Province of British Columbia since 1990. Her dedication to other members is personified in her work as a shop steward and long-time Joint Occupational and Safety member, also serving as Emergency Floor Warden.
Participation in the BC Aboriginal Employees Association (AEA) has been very rewarding over the years, where she held positions of Secretary, Treasurer and a short stint as Assistant-Chair. She has assisted with the AEA List Serve since the inception of the Association. Since Government support of the Association has dwindled, the group meets less frequently than they would like to, but keep in touch with the group via the List Serve, managed primarily by SK. In the early days of the Association, there were monthly meetings and gatherings on a regular basis. Satellite Association members in other communities were also supported in those days.
Pam’s Lightworker training began in earnest when she moved to Victoria. She met the founding members of what is now known as Thirteenth House and began training with them.
