Dance Instructor / Movement Therapy

Offered by: Dakini Uma Amitabha

Located in: San Jose, California
Skill/Service Details: Instruction, Performance, Promotion
Dakini performs and teaches a variety of traditional Middle Eastern, North African, and Central Asian dance styles. Drawing from many years of dance training and live performance, Dakini is capable of blending diverse dance forms into what she calls "World Fusion Dance". She does so without losing the heart and spirit of the traditions that she draws on, honoring and acknowledging the ancient cultures that these dances represent while bringing a spark of new life and passion to them. Whether you are hiring Dakini for a performance or choosing her as your teacher, you are in for a rare and refreshing experience.
Dakini's spirit shines with amazing energy, vitality and wisdom. The potency of the rich traditions that she represents in her dance is transferred to audiences and students alike. There is something timeless, sacred, and unnamable that she brings both to the stage and the classroom. Her dedication to her craft and careful attention to detail make her a valuable mentor and guide for students at any level.
Current class schedule will soon be available! New series begins January, 2012 at the Center for Creative Living in San Jose, CA!
Dakini has been a performing artist and dancer for 30 + years. Her dedication to dance and seasoned passion for the performing arts gives her a deep and intimate understanding of the world of Dance Theater.
Dakini is a veteran member of the Veils of the Nile dance company (2001-2009) , directed by Aleili, which often performs for dance festivals, non-profits and charity benefits. The Veils still sponsor a quarterly performance venue in North Bend, WA geared toward encouraging new dancers. Check out www.veilsofthenile.com.
In addition, she is also a two time graduate of Helene Eriksen’s “Women’s Dances of the Orient” project, which performed at Seattle’s Folklife Festival in 2008 and 2009, and continues to develop as "ANAR DANA" under Eriksen’s direction. See www.helene-eriksen.de.
Dakini has been a dedicated member of the Fire Family community of spiritual seekers, light workers, healers and facilitators since 2006. She has immersed herself in the scholarly pursuit of comparative religion/folklore since she was a child. Combining her passions for dance and spirituality has been a lifelong challenge and joy for Dakini as she strives to explore the root of the complex connections to Spirit we all share. Developing a rich language of movement in order to express something that transcends the spoken word, Dakini hopes to aid others in reaching that place deep within that fills us with longing, hope and awe.
