Skill/Service Details: Diversity of plant life is the key to a garden which welcomes all of natures inhabitants. I have over 50 kinds of plants in my yard, many are native to this area and I do not irrigate. A 'stroll garden' is what I am developing with many sitting areas. I received a first place award from the Florida Native Plant Society in 1998 in the residential category for one of my customers yards and in 1994 received a Certificate of Distinction for the the community of Orchid Island I worked for.because of native plant restoration near jungle trail and enhancement of native habitats throughout the entire property which was under receivership at the time.
What have I done lately though? In 2011 I received an Award of Merit from FNPS for my concept called 'Birdgarden"
I have been an adviser and volunteer for the local tree board since 1998 and passed the Master Gardener exam in 1988 in Connecticut and 1991 and 2001 in Florida.
LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD CUSTOMERS
I am eager to find customers who would like to create a pagan atmosphere in their garden or are looking for plants that will use less water and utilize xeriscape concepts. My belief is that in time an ecological balance is achieved in your garden with a variety of plants and there is rarely a need to kill insects although I am licensed to do so. There are 50 trees in my yard with a DBH over 4 inches. Butterfly gardening has been an emphasis here in central Florida for ten years now and has become mainstreamed. My emphasis is on bird gardening and providing shelter and food sources for the local ones and the migrating birds. Imagine some little 4 ounce bird has just flown 250 miles hopping from one island to the next looking for food and shelter as it migrates north. She goes to my neighbor and sees oleanders ixora plumbago philodendron and other non native plants. Off to the next house....no food here either. Finally, she flies into my yard, white indigoberry, wild coffee, tamarind, elderberry, sugar cane, fiddlewood, maypop (passion vine) marlberry, saw palmetto snowberry and others. If not fruiting, they are flowering which attracts the many pollinating insects birds love to eat. Insects are a dime a dozen, my concern is the 50% reduction of songbirds the last 50 years.
My yard is not flashy and colorful with the big blooms because native plants tend to have small blooms but other useful attributes. Plants such as fiddlewood and marlberry are strongly scented with medium sized dark colored berries and birds are well fed when they leave to continue their journey. The colorful biological deserts of most yards may have their "curb appeal" but I would rather have "goddess appeal" a balancing of all life, a healthy cell in a sick world. Anyone out there wanting to turn their yard into a garden please use this fine system of cloaked email that Witchvox provides. I would happily give potential customers a free analysis of their yard but I require yards that will yield a minimum of 50 dollars a month in maintenance fees.
Rates: I've had to establish 20 dollars an hour as my rate and with my 77 dollars an hour plumber and 75 dollar an hour mechanic I feel this is very reasonable considering my experience. Liability insurance and properly licensed.
