Beadworking/Jewelry

Offered by: Jennefer Juniper

Located in: Mankato, Minnesota

Skill/Service Details: I began doing bead work about 9 years ago when I took a fabrics class in college and fell in love. I find bead working very meditative and for years simply beaded to bead. I would make all sorts of projects, do experimentation with forms, designs and materials and then either give them away or cannibalize previous projects for future ones. My husband and friends have recently convinced me that not only is my work good enough to sell, but that it would be relatively easy to do so. That's when I opened my Etsy store. Etsy is an on online arts and crafts site where makers and buyers of the handmade meet.

I mostly do a type of bead work called "bead-weaving"; working with tiny beads called "seed" beads overlapping each other to create a woven effect. I've recently began to work with wire and stones as well as using larger beads for certain effects.

On a spiritual level, I tend to associate the beading process with the Norns weaving on their looms. I've used beading in a number of castings and find it to be an excellent way to do charms. As I'm beading I envision the goal and see it set into the bead work. I recently just finished a set of runes that I bead-wove and find beading a good way to do rune-binding.

Though beading can be very spiritual to me, I still just bead to bead sometimes. I love colors and shapes and what I can do with them to create different pieces of work. Some of what I do is free-form and some is designed. I find beading a great way to say "I wonder what would happen if I did this?" or "I wonder what that would look like?".

Rates: My rates for already-made pieces are on my Etsy store. For individual projects and special orders I will be more than happy to give estimates. I'm easy to work with (the project will ultimately be yours) and all I ask is for some patience. Depending on the project, beading can take time, but I am good at (and used to) working with deadlines.
