Skill/Service Details: Feng shui pronounced fehng-shway in English is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics that utilize the Laws of both the heavens (astronomy) and the Earth (geography) to help one improve life by receiving positive Chi, the vital force believed in Taoism and other Chinese thought to be inherent in all things. The unimpeded circulation of chi and a balance of its negative and positive forms in the body are held to be essential to good health in traditional Chinese medicine.
The words feng shui literally translate as "wind-water" in English. This is a cultural shorthand taken from the following passage of the Zhangshu (Book of Burial) by Guo Pu of the Jin Dynasty. Chi rides the wind and scatters, but is retained when encountering water. Feng shui is the practice of arranging objects (such as furniture) and space arrangement in order to achieve harmony with the environment.
The philosophy behind Feng Shui is that objects, and the space surrounding the objects, are interconnected – when one goes out of balance, so does the other. Through the careful arrangement of furniture and other objects, the proper flow of energy and balance is created, which brings everything into harmony and helps people to achieve their goals.
