Gigantic Meat-Eating Dinosaur Discovered

Author: Science Daily   Source: Science Daily

Title: GIGANTIC MEAT-EATING DINOSAUR DISCOVERED

At a news conference today in the western Patagonian city where the news species was found, paleontologists will unveil what may be one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs known. Mapusaurus roseae, is named and identified in Geodiversitas by Professor Rodolfo Coria of the Museo Carmen Funes in Plaza Huincul, Argentina and Dr. Philip Currie of the University of Alberta, Canada.

"Over the last decade, people have become increasingly aware of a group of gigantic meat-eating dinosaurs called carcharodontosaurids," explains Currie. "These animals include Giganotosaurus, which was larger than the largest known specimen of Tyrannosaurus rex. After four years of working in a dinosaur quarry in Argentina, we discovered that we had a new species of carcharodontosaurid that we called Mapusaurus roseae."

Like most guys, I've been fascinated by dinosaurs since I was a little kid. Even put together plastic dinosaur models and painted them how *I* thought they would have looked.

I don't even qualify as an "amateur" paleotologist, but there seems to be 2 constants in recent research: 1. Scientists are discovering that more species lived in family groups or communities (herds?) and 2. The time period during which specific species lived is always being pushed back. Even humans. Some day I'm sure they'll discover life on earth is older than previously thought.

There's evidence that T.Rex lived in small family groups and raised their kids, feeding them by hand (sort of...) Maybe the reason T.Rex had such puny forelimbs is pure evolutionary--dinos with longer arms had them bitten off by their young'ins!

Anyhow, I vote for "Holyshi*osaurus". ("OhMyGodoSaurus just doesn't have the same ring to it.)

Ah, The Mighty Mapasaurus! Apr 19th. at 1:28:35 pm EDT

Actually, It's really a pretty good name. And great camoflage. The moment the other dinosaurs heard the name Mapusaurus roseae, they went limp, convulsing with laughter. They were laughing so hard they couldn't run from danger. Consequently he could just walk up and gulp them down.

This was one of the hypotheses concerning the name and the nature of rhe beast.
The other, was the possibility that the other dinos made fun of him- so much so that he became a savage nasty huge meat eating monster in order to get even. Just kidding!

Wimpy or not, I fear the name is his. After all it is the perogative of the discoverer. One thing is certain- the name marks only where he was found. Not what it was. I'm sure soon, people will know more about the Mighty Mapasaurus-- and forgive the name.

What A Wimpy Name!!!!!! Apr 19th. at 7:18:27 am EDT

Mapusaurus!?!?!?
The largest meat eater ever found and they don't give it a name like Tyrannosaurus Rex or Velociraptor, or even Allosaurus?

OOOOO..Help!..I'm being chased by a Mapusaurus!------------Does that strike fear in you? NO. More than likely, you'd be like "Huh? What?"

Why not Terminator-osaurus? Or MeatGrinder-osaurus? Or Buzzsaw-osaurus? Now THOSE are cool names, not something like MAPUsaurus.

What kind of paleontologists are they anyway?
