Austrian Holocaust Denier Gets Six-And-A-Half Years In Prison

Author: AFP Source: European Jewish Press

Title: AUSTRIAN HOLOCAUST DENIER GETS SIX-AND-A-HALF YEARS IN PRISON
A Vienna court sentenced Monday a former extreme-right city councillor to four years in prison for Holocaust denial, adding another two-and-a-half years of a previous suspended sentence, a report said.
It was the third time that Wolfgang Frohlich, 56, had been found guilty on similar charges, following letters to Austrian members of parliament and Pope Benedict XVI denouncing the Holocaust as a "Satanic lie," the APA news agency said.

with sending him to jail tends to give him credibility (as another poster mentioned) . Keep these scumbags out in the open where their untruths can be taken apart for the lies they are. In the open, no one can hide from the truth. These jackasses are better exposed when they expose themselves...er, so to speak.

If enough deny, then more will doubt. And others will claim that it was not as bad as some claims.
This man was sentenced in Vienna. An easy drive from Vienna, you will find Mathausen, where you can find gas chambers which have permanent stains from the repeated use of Zyklon-B during the time it was in operation.
We must not allow the lies of denial. Not when it denies the attempted extermination of an entire people while the rest of the world sat idly by.

.. about this sort of thing. The holocaust happened in part in Austria and there's still a lot of collective guilt.
BUT besides the free speech issue (which I don't think stops at our borders) there's another problem.
From personal experience, you don't refute an idiot by shutting him up. Al you do is make the guy seem credible because now it looks like the Government trying to "silence the Truth". It takes the focus off what's really important.. that this guy is a bigoted moron.

Since his age may put him as being born after everything happened, it is quite feasable to believe that he would deny these things happened- because he didn't see them first hand, just as many of the Japanese deny or obfuscate everything that they did in this same time as well. Denying that they happened didn't make them not happen. But it does set a dangerous precedent toward repetition of these events at some future date. It also makes people aware that if they do deny these things-then they are the ones most likely to commit these crimes again, because they Can deny it. Forgetfulness can come so easily..

I read a case study in my business law class where the French government tried to sue a American Man for posting nazi memorabilia to sell on I believe Yahoo.Europeans my have gone too far with these cases and are feeling overly guilty. Yes the nazis were horrible and their crime terrible and it should be remembered so as not to let it happen again, but you cannot tell someone what to believe. Evil is relative and if this guy thinks the holocaust didn't happen so what, I don't believe a jewish carpenter walked on water, but thats my opinion

Prison time for statement of belief. I may not agree with this guy's ideas, but now I know to watch what I say aloud should I ever go to Austria.
