School of Witchcraft Casts Spell in Austria

Author: Julia Ferguson Source: Reuters

Title: WITCHES SCHOOL CASTS SPELL ON ALPS
You won't learn how to fly a broomstick or cast spells with the flick of a wand, but a potent dose of grit and study will turn you into a witch, promises Europe's first School of Witchcraft.
The school in the southern Austrian city of Klagenfurt might sound hocus-pocus, but those looking to emulate fictional young wizard Harry Potter will be a mite disappointed: the curriculum is downright scientific, and eye of newt is nowhere to be seen.
Headmaster Andreas Starchel, who prefers to be called by his druid name Danaketh, said he established the school to demystify witchcraft by explaining phenomena using scientific methods from physics, chemistry, and biology.

I'm always interested to see a school of Witchcraft open up. I think if I was ever going to attend one it would be more for the firsthand technical instruction I've never had the benefit of having out here in the suburbs. I wonder though, I mean it's a bigger step than people think. Occult means literally "secret knowledge," and was always used as kind of a filter. One who was teaching would use their intuition and whatnot to feel out the intent of the student. An open school I would worry whether they teach anyone, like even somebody who means harm. I suppose it's not really that dangerous though, I'd like to believe it's not exactly a science or a machine, but is divine at least on some level (if not just in spirit).
I still hold personally to the ideal that "witches are born, not made." Then again, as I know the craft can be lost for generations and still have that power deep within, I would also figure one can start a witchy line of their own.
So all in all, I think it's awesome, and I'm left with a lingering curiousity.

Not only that, but it is available over the internet and in english as well as german.

this is a better link (I hope). It looks a series of fri-sunday things. One weekend, that's the whole on campus course. Most of the books are in german only. You can do it online and if you take it with coaching, you get a whole semester access to the class online discussion.

Texas witch13 please clarify. I am sorry if my comment seemed stuffy. That was not my intent, I just woke up, so my brain has not had its full caffiene intake yet. :}

Just to clarify, he said "being a Witch is not inborn" meaning that you don't have to be born into a Witch family or be born special in any way. There are no prerequisites for being a Witch (except having an open mind of course:}).

School of Witchcraft in Austria...I think it sounds pretty cool..for many of us the Craft is a way of life...but for many it appears to be a stuffy way of something else to argue about...or maybe they just can't break away from an organized,patriarchal "way of life" So that could be why some might think the School of W.C. would be B.S. Chill out! And in Regards to the comment that witches are not born...well there is an example of "I'm right you're wrong"

This actually sounds really appealing. Maybe I'll migrate to Austria after grad school. ^_^
