When Killer Kangaroos Roamed The Earth

Author: University of New South Wales via Reuters Source: MSNBC

Title: WHEN KILLER KANGAROOS ROAMED THE EARTH
Forget cute, cuddly marsupials. Paleontologists say they have found the fossilized remains of a fanged killer kangaroo and what they describe as a "demon duck of doom."
A University of New South Wales team said the fearsome fossils were among 20 previously unknown species uncovered at a site in Australia's northwest Queensland state.

Looks like nature can show itself to outright bizarre when she wants to be. Not too long ago, some 20,000 years, when humans first set foot in Austrailia, they found a relative of the Komodo Dragon that was the largest lizard carnivore on Earth, called Megalania. When he attacked, he could rear up twenty feet tall. And very few people realize that back in the Miocene, lived a one ton carnivore called Andrewsarkis, that was related oddly-- to sheep, as it had hooves instead of claws. Try herding that thing! While mammals went through some really odd changes- it stands to reason marsupials and other creatures did too. And lands like South America and Austrailia, because they were cut off until the land bridges arose went through some of the strangest experiments ever seen.

You DO realize, of course, that all I have in my head now is an image of that giant kangaroo that Tom fought in the old "Tom & Jerry" cartoons interspersed with footage from "Jurassic Park".
I feel like Opus.
("HALF-NAKED EXPLODING PORPOISES!!!")
Ah crap, I just dated myself. Well, some of you will get the reference.
*grin*
Pretty cool finding, though.
