Neptune Statue Divides Devonport

Author: ABC News (AU) Source: ABC News (AU)

Title: NEPTUNE STATUE DIVIDES DEVONPORT
A controversial Neptune-style statue should be erected at the mouth of Devonport's Mersey River by the start of next summer.
Supporters say it will boost tourism, but opponents say it is a sacrilegious pagan symbol, or just poor artwork.

Thanks, I use many terms taken from christians that I then reverse for use both on-line and in the real world.
Examples: Immoral christians Idol worshippers Blood drinking christians Vampire wannabes Christian cultist Christian mythology Filthy christians Evil christians Women hating cult Goddessless christians and more recently, True Satanist
Thanks for the addition to my list.
"Sacreligious christians"
Honestly, I can't believe I missed that word.

Gee.
In Europe there are the most beautiful statues of the Old and Venerable Goddesses and Gods, naked and not, in just about every country one might choose to visit.
When people are shouting about "Classical Art" being bad art, and "Pagan!" as if that's a bad thing, let them remember that some of the most beautiful statuary that is in existance today came from a time when people could appreciate beauty wherever it came from......Old gods or New.

To do anything else, that makes us hypocrites just like them.

is that we cannot raise all sorts of fuss over a "Ten Commandments" monument and then just sit by or support them putting up a monument to one of our dieties. It's an all or nothing senario. If we get to have this, then we have to stop carping when the Christians put up a 2 ton granite monument to their religion. If we are going to be for the separation of Church and State, it has to be all churches, not just the ones we don't like. That makes us hypocrites just like them.

Gee. It's nice that folks in the pagan community aren't calling some of the christian symbols "sacreligious christian symbols." What is this anyhow?
There are an awful lot of symbols, holidays, etc. that have been borrowed, modified, shared, and outright conscripted across various groups down through the centuries. I'm not so sure that Neptune should be that all fired "sacreligious" to them.
Silly, silly, silly. Folks (all of them) have many other areas needing their focus right now without wasting energy fussing about this.

Construction started yesterday? Good.
Boo Hoo to the opponents. How's it feel to have something that offends your religion get stuck in the middle of a town square?
I'm sure they'll stomp their feet and cry descrimination.
