Stirring The Pot For An Age-Old Practice

Author: Simon Bevilacqua Source: The Mercury News (AU)

Title: STIRRING THE POT FOR AN AGE-OLD PRACTICE
In the last Australian census, more than 220 Tasmanians said they were witches.
And another 270 said they were pagans.
They are part of a growing fascination with witchcraft and paganism throughout the country.
Nature religions, including witches, druids and pagans, are Australia's fastest growing religious group.
Involvement has more than doubled from 10,052 in 1996 to more than 24,000 in 2001.
University of Tasmania sociologist Douglas Ezzy has been studying Australia's fascination with witchcraft for more than five years.

This article just made my day. I applaud the author for his truthfulness! The more people who decide to open their heart to other religions, the closer we are to a peaceful, loving planet. Fantastic!

Hooray--a great article, AND it mentioned a religion BESIDES Wicca!

Very surprised at this one. It's really kind of uplifting to know that people are out there that understand pagans, but arent necesarily pagans themselves. I think we need a little uplifting in todays world. Makes you smile.

This was a very fair and balanced (oh...damn, Fox can sue me now) report on how Paganism is perceived by both Pagans and non-Pagans. It's also very heartening to hear that it's increasing in popularity. I read somewhere (I think it was religioustolerance.org) that in the year 2010, Christianity will become a minority religion (i.e. practiced by less than 50% of the people) in North America.
So bravo to the journalist and the article. Very good and it ontains some good basic information (VERY basic) for people who don't have any pre-existing knowledge.

It's nice to see that more and more people are getting into Wicca and Paganism. It's even nicer to see people becoming so comfortable with it that they are willing to write it down on the Census paperwork that they are so.

I just wanted to say that everytime I read or hear of people who are realizing the "truths" of Paganism and Witchcraft it makes me smile. Inside I'm doing back flips of joy because those people who choose to read these articles are a few more people towards having more mainstream acceptance in the global communitee.

This was such a nice article to read this morning. A very fair and well balanced report. The most impressive part to me was that they interviewed a Catholic priest. While I certainly don't agree with the priest I think that both sides of an issue should always be heard. And it's always nice to break the misconception that teenagers are all casting love spells and turning rivals into toads. We get way to much of that. -_-* This article has been a lovely reinforcement of the fact humanity as a whole is progressing.
