Author: MSNBC News Services   Source: MSNBC.com

Title: Crowded House drummer found dead

MELBOURNE - The drummer from 1980s Australian rock band Crowded House hanged himself in a park in southern Australia, an emergency services spokeswoman said Monday.

“I am devastated. I have lost one of my best mates,” former Crowded House singer Neil Finn told Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph newspaper.

Paul Hester, 46, went missing on Friday. His body was found Saturday in a park near his home in the southern city of Melbourne, said Metropolitan Ambulance Service spokeswoman Liraje Memishi.

Goodbye Paul Merry Meet, Merry Part Mar 29th. at 9:03:31 am EST

David Pendragon (Canberra, Australian Capital Territory) - Email Me

You gave so much of yourself in the life you walked, your gifts will be here for many moons. The greatest beat of all was the one you found so hard this time round, go rest awhile brother, then on with the journey once again.

I Am Appalled And Outraged! Mar 28th. at 9:08:15 pm EST

Jill Medicine Heart (Blue Creek, Ohio) - Email Me

For some persons, yes, taking their own lives can be seen as cowardice, for some as honor so as not to betray someone or something and for some a chemical imbalanced known as Bipolar Disorder and for some it's to end a lifetime of physical pain due to a catastrophic illness.

Regardless of the circumstances suicide is a touch decision to make. So, before you make your assumptions over suicide, walk a mile in their moccasins, then we will chat.

I myself suffer from Bipolar and came VERY, VERY close to taking my own life. Yep, staring at the gun cabinet and knowing that if I pulled the trigger would have been in impulsive move-- which, I did learn after the fact was a part of the bipolar-- the impulsiveness. Thanks the gods I had enough sense to tell my husband to remove the weapons from the house-- then for me to make the decision to get some help was a tough one.

Whatever the circumstances were for this suicide of Peter Hess-- it's not our job to judge him. He made his own choice whether it was impulsive or planned. He apparently felt that he no other recourse and no where else to turn. I just wish that someone had reached him before he decided to make his fatal choice. The devastation that he must have felt was deep and intense--I know that feeling-- where you feel you have no other choice-- no where to turn-- and just can't go on no matter what you think or feel. Heck, sometimes you just don't "feel" anything-- you are so damn numb from your physical or emotional pain that it doesn't matter anymore.

My gods people, have some compassion!

Sad Loss Mar 28th. at 5:35:20 pm EST

Silkin (Werribee, Victoria) - Email Me

Yes it is a sad loss .
Yes it is also sad that he felt it was time to go by his own hand.
However for those who are judging the circumstances of his passing as being wrong think on this.

If we are to learn from many lives what is right & what is wrong then we need to experience . To my mind both the light & the darkness to truly understand. So lessons of this life may not be totally wasted, it may be a wake up for others and sometimes we fail and then we redo our lessons.

We say all life is sacred yet we also propose that we chose our paths some are vegi's, some vegan and others like to honor the hunt & eat meat.

Honor the man for his accomplishments give him some energy to make the transition easier & with grace. it was his path in this life stop judging the action & feel & give energy for all involved him included.

Moment Of Silence Mar 28th. at 3:41:48 pm EST

Several fond memories are stirred in me when listening to this band's body of work. The loss saddens me.

Many thanks for the music and may you be at peace, free from your torments, Paul.

My Feet Are Not In His Shoes Mar 28th. at 1:13:32 pm EST

Aidan Odinson (Collingdale, Pennsylvania) - Email Me

My feet are not in his shoes, and my feet have not walked the same paths he has walked. And so, I will withhold my judgement and choose to err in the direction of love and respect.

The subject of clinical depression has been raised, and if that was a factor, that tempers my action even more.

And so, I will say nothing about what he might be facing, and I will hope that he now has the comfort which must have eluded him here on this plane.

To do otherwise would be to claim knowledge which I won't completely have until I've crossed over.

And my feet never took so much as a single step in his shoes.

So rest well, my friend. May you find what you were hungering for.

Sad Day Mar 28th. at 12:40:31 pm EST

Lleied Arth (Royal Oak, Michigan) - Email Me

I always believe it a sad thing when someone chooses to take their own life. It is a very sad thing that this man has made his choice in this manner.

Choosing the coward's way out is never the right thing to do. Unfortunately, this man will face the consequences of his cowardice and failure.

I've dealt with this (suicide) on a personal level with family. It's never an easy thing to accept. Much harder to understand than the passing naturally of a loved one. And my heart goes to those who loved him. But not to him.

Life is a responsibility given us. A gift. We are responsible to live this life and learn what we must. This man, who has now lost the respect I once had for him, turned his back on his responsibilities. And now, because of his choice, I turn my back on him.

So mote it be.

And The Point Of Killing Yourself Is? Mar 28th. at 9:55:22 am EST

Istari (Hazel Park, Michigan) - Email Me

While I do have sympathy for his family and friends, I take serious issue with what he CHOSE to do to himself.
This may be a bit harsh and you can all throw tomatoes at me, but...
Many people have been so beaten down and depressed where they have reached a point that they just want to die to make whatever pain and troubles disappear.
But the thing is, they won't! You will still be the same person with the same emotional baggage and troubles, the same heartache and whatever other drama you were going through at that moment, all will follow you for it is still inside you and you cannot escape it! Only, you will be dead and no longer in your body and forever unable to get back in. Then what? You have to live with it in the afterlife, plus all of the pain that you caused others! Wee.
"Yeah, I took the cowards way out and selfishly killed myself."
Lovely... Just lovely...
The way I look at it, there is always somebody FAR worse off than I, and if you have your health, your gods and your fuzzy creatures, what more do you need?
24, 000 children die of starvation EVERY SINGLE DAY in this world! Some after seeing their parents brutally murdered and then being abused and raped themselves in these war torn countries!
Sorry, but I do not have much sympathy for those who choose to throw life away without a fight and with such disregard when they have so much!
I propose that people who seemingly "have it all" who kill themselves, be born into one of those truly hard lives, like, to live and die in the streets of Calcutta, covered in flies. How's that for troubles!?!
Or, live a life where most of your dearest loved ones slowly die over the years and you are left alone to mourn and miss them...
Maybe then they'll learn to appreciate life...
Lesson learned.
