More: Jailed Witch To Sue

Author: Liam Houlihan and Kate Uebergang Source: Melbourne Herald Sun (AU)

Title: JAILED WITCH TO SUE
One of Victoria's most notorious sex offenders is suing to stop Christian courses in the state's prisons because he says they discriminate against his rights as a witch.
Robin Fletcher, who is serving a 10-year sentence for drugging, enslaving, sexually assaulting and prostituting two 15-year-old girls, is using Victoria's controversial religious tolerance laws to sue the Salvation Army, Corrections Victoria and the course distributors.
In his complaint, the self-proclaimed bisexual witch calls for "Alpha" introduction to Christianity courses to be stopped throughout Victoria.
Fletcher, 49, says the course makes negative remarks about witches, astrologers and occultists and poses a danger to his health and safety "within the prison system" by provoking hatred of witches.

Whilst I don't condone or even remotely agree with the way this man has gone about leading his life, we must all remember one thing, that I find is far more important to the individual within the whole:
"Each must be free to choose". And whether that be choosing right or wrong is up to the individual, and will oftimes be the opposite to what most of us would have much rather preferred reading about.
I would like to see a multi - if not universal - religion "course" / "courses" within the jail system (s) here in Victoria, and all around Australia, because education will no doubt aid in the rehabilitation and provide the healing that these criminally afflicted people need.
By the way, I would like to ask why all the people who have commented on this article are from America, and not Australia, let alone, Victoria? Doesn't anyone local read our news here, or care?
Give the guy a chance to speak, and regardless of his crimes and conviction, see whether his voice speaks reason. If not, then let him be excused from the "course" and live free from religious discrimination through forcing him into something against his will. Even those in prison are still free to live life, however restricted by justice it may be.
Blessings from the Shadows, and Comfort from the Light to all.

If he is a witch surrounded by christians in a prison then he has the hell he actually needs. Ordinarily, I would back a prisoner in this, but he is just a sociopathic pimp and little more, using the Wiccan faith as a pretext for his lewd and lascivious behavior. Maybe he'll get some real help from all that proselytizing. Frankly, they ought to throw it out of the court.

This guy's case raises some serious issues of bias in sex laws, rather than apply a religion and culture neutral posture to distinguishing predatory acts from consensual ones.
I doubt these girls were raped, other than under very arbitrary laws which define by statute based on age that some people entitled to treatment as sexual adults under numerous religious and cultural traditions are unable to consent. When Jewish traditions on which Protestant religion is rooted include sexual coming of age at 13 or so, and American farming culture often saw age 13 brides in rural areas, it's important to focus on whether economics driven society is abusing people by denying teens functional social roles inclusive of the normal range of sexual development, and whether it's arrogant discriminatory laws or the common and normal acts of individuals subjected to them actually deserving to be treated as illegal. (5% of 12 year olds, and 50% at 17, are sexually active, regardless of biased laws.)
Prostitution laws were historically intended to favor xtian sects by undercutting pagan traditions that supported some pagan temples. While the black market that results from these discriminatory laws may foster other forms of crime, that's a result of biased and oppressive laws, not prostitution itself. Prostitution cannot rightfully be declared a crime under any religion neutral legal system.
This individual and his dark path, and apparent manipulative, predatory inclinations, may well leave him far from a model citizen within any religion, other than "American Secular Monetary Whorism". If we remove the Calvinist sex bigotry from the convictions in this case, what's left? Not being a nice guy? Since when is that any more illegal, than pandering on afternoon TV to far younger kids than these 15 year olds of products that are unhealthy to eat or damaging to the planet?
I'd be furious were I jailed under laws which have no rightful existence in the first place, as is the case for most mala prohibita in countries with basic protections of civil or human rights. As such, complaining about biases in one hate cult xtian prison course is trivial compared to the larger issues he's found to confront within an incredibly corrupt legal system to its roots.
Unless those 15 year olds were kidnapped or extorted as part of the alleged abuses, society and biased law are what deserve to be on trial here. There's far less danger to most of us from one not so nice guy and his dark path, than from community models acting as corporate or government predators and undercutting our health or oppressing our fundamental rights. The girls who entered an alternate set of sexuality options probably did so in preference to other options visible to them. That cannot legitimately be illegal, even if ideally more teens would develop more mature life skills on the same timeline as their bodies and their natural functions develop.

"Fletcher says he attended the prison's Alpha course because he is studying for a philosophy degree. He is suing the Salvation Army because one of their chaplains was running the course. "
Since the first Familiar of The Craft happened to be an InLythation of Dharma, I'm sure he'll do as much for Philosophy as he's done for Wicca.
"A person has chosen to voluntarily attend a course introducing the Christian faith (and) has taken exception to a verse from the Bible, "
Well, of course he's going to give his own spin to a religion's scripture. Of course, the Law favors him, and will have to be prosecuted for promoting Religious Intolerance.
Is this Alpha Course promoting ( potentially violent in this circumstance ) dislike of Wicca, or will he simply have been put down for his crimes? The idea of a protective oubliette is not a bad one, as tolerance of this guy could be seen as Cruel or Unusual.
People are locked in animal cages as punishment, not to suffer this guy.
His weird fantasies are probably not far wrong, but far enough, and slightly out-dated.

In life I try to be very understanding, and tolerant. That being said I would put this as polite as possible. I would say if this individual is having trouble with threats and fights in prison I would wager it has less to do with Wicca than it does the fact that those who abuse children often have a very difficult time in prison if the media is to be believed.
