'Cult' Fights Claims Of Child Sacrifice

Author: Barney Zwartz Source: The Age (AU)

Title: 'CULT' FIGHTS CLAIMS OF CHILD SACRIFICE
An anti-child-sex campaigner accused an occult religious group of hosting parties at which naked children acted as waiters and at which members had sex with and murdered children, a tribunal was told yesterday.
The obscure group Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO) claims Dr Reina Michaelson and the Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Program described it in a website article as a satanic cult that sacrificed children and ate their organs and blood.
It has complained under Victoria's religious hatred law that Dr Michaelson and her organization vilified OTO members, causing revulsion, ridicule, hatred and contempt.

Ben'elat (Helensburgh, New South Wales) - Email Me

A spectre is haunting Australia ...
When the results of this years census are published next year, it will not be surprising if (Neo) -Paganism in its various strains will emerege as the largest growing faith in Australia, outsripping even the growth in American-style evangelical Christianity (for which read mainly the Assemblies of God) .
Clearly the less tolerant Christian denominations perceive this as a threat, from what they see as "Satan's little white lie." They have shown that in the antipodean version of the Culture Wars they are even willing to be led along by (apparently psychotic - if web design is a reliable diagnostic tool) conspiracy theorists such as the gaiaguys. After all the OTO (and indeed Masonary) make a much more defined target the the largely amorphous Pagan movement.
Another related, target is the Greens political party (inasmuch as that party is the most sympathetic to Pagan concerns and undoubtedly enjoys the greatest support among Australian Pagans) , is being hounded by a secretive cult the Exclusive Brethren. The Brethren recently opened a "school" just outside my town, surrounded by 9' hurricane fences topped with barbed wire (though whether this is meant to keep the curious out, or the 'elect' in is another question) . Although forbidden by their religion from voting (the only lawful excuse for not voting in Australia btw) , they are surreptitiously involving themselves in both NZ and Australian politics (see here)
This accusation against the OTO is typical in the moral panic surrounding paedophilia which is sweeping (not only) Australia at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I'm a parent and have no love for child abusers, it is just that currently a mere accusation of paedophilia seems as politically effective as a conviction.
Australian Pagans, despite (or because) of the growth in our numbers, should make no mistake, they are coming after us. I used to have a fairly live and let live attitude towards Christians until the struggle we had to go through to keep our kids away from fundie religious instruction in the government school they go to. It opened my eyes really to what is happening in that regard. The federal government is been spending millions of taxpayers dollars setting up little religious private schools all over the countryside, and just the other week announced a A$90mill initiative to provide government schools with chaplains. And all this despite the fact that our constitution contains much the same words as the one which makes it illegal even to hang a relious picture in US government schools.

Every parent when I was growing up was psychotically scared by Geraldo's and others reports that armies of Satanists were lurking in their neighbourhoods just waiting to kidnap some sweet Hummel looking Christian kids, torture them, and drank their blood while crying "Hail Satan!", and none of it ever turned out to be true. If children do confess to any "Cultic" activity like this, it's usually under the durress of an over zealous (usually fundie Christian) prosecutor asking young children over and over to agree with their story and lying to them that they will be able to return home with their parents if they just tell them the "truth". It's sad that people haven't grown more tolerant, especially after we've all seen (via 9/11 and the Taliban) what intolerance can do. The fact is, if anyone should be questioned about child abuse it should begin with Christian parents who sent their kids to Bible camp to be brainwashed (has anyone else seen "Jesus Camp"? My God, that's some scary stuff!) .

. . .Aleister Crowley these rumors have popped up. Though the man started most of the rumors about himself, all for the sake of a little press.
Yet the accusations tossed about are untrue, and does nothing more than vilify what others cannot, or will not, understand.
Sue 'em for all their worth, and let the courts sort 'em out.
Fight with knowledge, not in ignorance.

Ok, I have read the news article. Nothing of any real substance there, just a "they said, we said" kind of "reporting". Oh, a mention of another article, which is "still accessible on a website run from NSW", but no link to that website -- so no way for anyone not familiar with this "NSW" to know where (or even what) it is. (um, "Naturally Smart Women"?)
Other than that, I have to wonder just how this Dr. Michaelson became aware of the OTO's "satanic" ritual practices in the first place. Did she, perhaps, attend some of them to gain first-hand eye-witness knowledge -- or did she rely instead on the "testimony" of some third party with an axe to grind? Or did she simply use her seemingly limited imagination to come up with some sort of "satanic" ritual that just happens to agree with what those of her ilk think of as "satanic, devil-worshipping Paganism"?

Opus the Poet (Garland, Texas) - Email Me - Web

If all these ritual murders were taking place, the countryside would be littered with dismembered corpses. And where are the missing persons reports? With all those dead kids the police would be covered up in distraught parents wanting to know what happened to their children. This is all just the same satanic panic all over again.

Nalaya (Chandler, Arizona) - Email Me

We saw alot of these type of scare'm news in the 70's right down to the satanic ritual abuse allegations. . . this sounds just like it. People's lives were ruined over complete and total fabrications born out of fear, ignorance and sometimes pure villany. The best thing to do is speak truth where harmful lies are spoken in a clear, calm as a matter of factly tone, then refer them to the nearest piece of reliable refernce so they don't have to take your word for it. In fact it is often best to tell them that they don't have to take your word for it and direct them to do some homework for themselves. ( with unblinking direct eye contact of course.)

No kidding? Sounds like someone got a little high on the repressed memory hypnotism. That used to be the rage, until someone found out that many of those memories were trumped up.

Had we not embraced agriculture (which in turn begot towns and cities) syphilis and gonhorrea would not have been able to mutate as they did.
That kind of mutation requires repeated exposure and a large enough vector to grab hold.

These accusations come from someone who JUST NOW ran into the whole "child sacrifice" quote from Crowley, in which he was actually talking about masturbation in a manner to shock people.
Geez.

The Book of The Law might easily be a book about laws which are not Love, a joke book. What would a Thelemite write as guidance, for those seeking their own paths?
I remember a story about a world enslaved, and the remedy was for them all to turn on the water at the same time each day.
