Bible Blasphemy Shock

Author: Milanda Rout and Mary Bolling Source: Herald Sun (AU)

Title: BIBLE BLASPHEMY SHOCK
The parents of a Muslim student who urinated on and burned a Bible say they are shocked and ashamed over their son's actions.
Religious leaders yesterday condemned the desecration by students from the East Preston Islamic College.
Two students were expelled and one suspended over the incident, which occurred at a camp at YMCA Lake Dewar Lodge near Bacchus Marsh last week.
East Preston Islamic College principal Shaheem Doutie said parents of one expelled student had told the school they were appalled by their son's behavior.
"The parents were totally shocked to hear their children did things like this," he said.

like the this incident is handled. The boys are being punished for their actions. It looks like pretty much every authority figure from the parents to religious leaders is comming down on them like the proverbial ton of bricks. This seems like the appropriate response of a mature and developed community to me.
I have to agree with a previous poster, I don't see a need for any comments against the Muslim community here. It seems like this community is policing their own just fine. It sounds like Mom will be "kicking their butts", and they can probably count on some "fire and brimstone" courtesy of the local Imams.

i think the boys were wrong to desecrate the writings and teachings of someone elses religion. its like someone having a puppy that they love and cherish and hold close to their hearts only to have it kicked on and thrown into the wall... its just plain wrong and that kind of action creates a negative energy that will follow them til some grave misfortune befalls them. let this be a lesson to people of every faith. religious intolerance is 1) unacceptable, 2) unacceptable, and 3) UNACCEPTABLE..... they've sewn their seeds and will now see their harvest.

If find it bizarre that whenever something like 9/11, or the cartoon riots, or whatever happens, then the biggest complaint from non-Muslims is "why do their leaders never condemn these acts" despite the fact that in ALL of these cases, I've heard from Muslims leaders who do - PUBLICLY, LOUDLY.
And yet, here's an article where the second piece of information we're given is that the parents are shocked and taking appropriate actions, the school and imams likewise, and yet all I can hear is snivelling and moaning about how Islam is an intolerant religion.
Religions are only as tolerant as their adherents, and judging by the reactions on WVox, Wicca/Paganism/Witchcraft/Whatever you're calling yourself today has JUST as big a problem with bigotry, intolerance and ingnorance as ANY other religion.
Cheers to us. May we ALL one day *grow up.*
Blessed BE! JL

"The Australian yesterday revealed the school in Melbourne's north expelled two boys and suspended a third over the desecration - a Bible was urinated on, spat on and burnt - during a school camp for boys from years 7 to 10 boys last week."
This is South Park. How are they going to do a South Park down under?
Whatever part of the Law, or the Evangel, these idiots have symbollically desecrated, they have desecrated only in their own hearts. They must have been whacked, however, to be desecrating the Summer Camp, whether or not it was the Young Muslim's Christian Association. These children might have been over the Age of Reason, and can't dine with Mohammedans until they choose to convert.
I hope the Collaborationist Idiots of our own Army understand their contribution, to the desecration of their own Holy Scripture, and that idiot cleric as well.

If they expect the koran to be respected, then the bible shares equal space. The action by the students was not surprising-- but the reaction by the school and the parents was. I would rather hope it catches hold among some xtian types too.

Now we all know that if this had happened in a mostly Moslen nation with a Christian school and kids the kids would be lucky not to be on trial for their lives and the school would probably already be closed down and the organisers arrested.

Yes it was an Islamic school, and I am so pleased to see that the school, and others within the Muslim community not tolerating this sort of behavior from its youth.
There is hope for the future every time a community of any background says not acceptable.

First of all to clarify a misunderstanding. The muslim boys were not being picked on or singled out because of their religion. The school in question is an islamic school (East Preston Islamic College) . By far the vast majority of students there are muslims. There are some of other religions there, there are also non-muslim teachers, but the majority are muslims. The camp was owned by the YMCA. In Australia the YMCA owns many camp facilities which are regularly rented out to schools and other organisations. This is not done on a religious basis.
Having put that straight I can now give my opinion. Those boys deliberately vandalised the site, the bible was one incident (in the article broken windows were mentioned as well as setting off fire extinguishers) . They behaved in an unacceptable manner even if you left out the whole religious dimension with the bible. They had their fun, they paid the price - end of story. I think the school did the right thing. Vandalism of any sort is not to be given the blind eye, and religious bigotry is unacceptable. Even the boys parents were shocked by what they had done.
The boys behaviour was un-Australian and I completly support the school and the action it took.

At least the parents are doing the right thing and acknowledging what their son has done. Fundies come in all stripes. With this War on Terror, one act like this will be blown out f proportion to show how "evil" all Muslims are. No, two wrongs don't make a right, so maybe all involved parties should be forced to donate service hours to help religious institutions or charities as reparation for being complete @$$%^&*.
