Air Data D-Day Looms

Author: EUpolitix   Source: EU Politix (Belgium)

Title: AIR DATA D-DAY LOOMS

Brussels must attempt to reconcile conflicting demands and paper over political cracks on the issue of privacy rights for air passengers next Wednesday.

European Commissioners are under pressure to conclude talks with the US on controversial handovers of air passenger information.

The choice is a stark one: either compromise with Washington and spark a fierce political row; or enforce EU data protection laws plunging Trans-Atlantic relations and European airlines into crisis.

US officials also indicate that December is a key month.

Washington unveils a "comprehensive, anti-terror watchlist" to be operational by December 1 2003.

They Need To Aim That Security At The Whitehouse Nov 21st. at 9:49:33 am EST

by Ahroun (New England) - wc_xemail

Cause I bet Bin Laden and all the other terrorist are hanging out there. I beleive Bush paid Bin Laden to pull off september 11 to further his stronghold on the world. On september 12, most every american was ready to go to war, they just needed the scapegoat.

September 11th made it so someone is publicly chasticed for even saying they don't like the president. That's all I ever heard on the radio is how this person is unamerican cause they spoke out against war or how this person is unamerican because they went out on stage in europe and said they are ashamed bush is from texas.

It has caused an uprise of people out to prove that they are more american that thou and the common beleif is that your americanness can only be measure by how much you support bush, no matter what side he's on.

European Air Security Nov 20th. at 4:56:33 pm EST

by Opus the Poet (Garland TX) - wc_xemail

Air passenger security in Europe has always been more strict than ours, and still manages to protect the rights and privacy of air travellers. This is just a massive intrusion by the Bush II administration on the civil rights of people that can't even turn the illegitimate son of a sea-cook out on his ear and have no recourse except to sue in a court that Shrub wouldn't recognize anyway. Sorry, run on sentence.

Anyway, to be brief the EU should just tell Shrubya to fold it until it's all corners and place it where it will do the most good. We have no business interfering in the internal affairs of soveriegn coutries.

Georgie Strikes Again Nov 20th. at 2:45:26 pm EST

by Enna (Southern California) - wc_xemail

I think it's sad and scary that George W. and his right-wing bullies have such a world intimidation mission going on that cooperation with the other governments of the world, even our supposed allies, is impossible. Obviously a danger exists for terrorists to enter our country through Europe, if Europe's security measures are different from ours. But because of our government's belligerant insistence, our countries cannot come to some agreement as to what measures should actually be in place to address this issue. Instead, our government's insistence on total control to dictate to every country in the world what they should be doing for us is keeping more reasonable protections for all countries (that don't violate everyone's rights) from being worked out. Europe should probably be reviewing added safety measures for its own security. But our government has become so suspect and our demands so total that there is no longer such things as negotiation and diplomacy. So now we have gone from antagonizing the countries in the Middle East to antagonizing Europe. Gee, I sure feel a lot safer. NOT!

Here's what I want to know: What is our government doing to track down that b@$t@rd bin Laden? They seem to have conveniently forgotten about him and the real mission of this debacle. We should be cooperating with ALL the countries in the ME to track him down. Cut off the head, the beast will die. I think the countries of the ME would take us more seriously, have more respect for us, and feel less threatened if we stuck to the original mission instead of serial invasions of their countries (mark my words, Iran is next, and I hope I'm wrong) . George Bush thinks he can make every country in the world into Little America. Not only is that impossible, it is disrespectful and wrong. That attitude will only serve to make the other countries of the world hate us more. Every country in this world will evolve into the modern world in its own time and its own way, just like we did. Every country will not turn out to be a carbon copy of us, and that's the way it should be. Our government officials need to accept and respect these countries and their people, instead of being so ethnocentric and nationalistic. We will never get any respect until we start giving it.

What hypocrites our government officials are! They rail against the human rights violations in the Middle East (and I would never say they don't exist, of course they do) while they ignore what is going on in Africa and the Far East, in every Third World country. The people in the other countries of this world may be different from us in many ways, but galloping stupidity is not one of them. They can spot a hypocrite a mile away. Actually, I think our government officials may have cornered the market on galloping stupidity. If our government officials were actually the great humanitarians they claim to be, we would be using that $87 million to get food, medicine, public works projects, and education to the people of this world, including our own country, who don't have access to those things. What is it the christians say? Ye shall be know by your good works? How I wish they would start practicing what they preach! That would be a much better example to set for the world than what we are doing now. Isn't that the way people learn, by example? And our government wonders why other countries feel like they need a military build-up. Two reasons: they're following our example, and they feel like they need to protect themselves - from us! DUH.

Well, there's my rant for the day. Sorry, but that U.S. war ship docking at Saigon yesterday brought back some bad memories that really upset me, and this Iraq thing is giving me a deja-vu I hoped I'd never have.

The Thought Police Nov 20th. at 1:19:15 pm EST

What in the cornbread hell is this junk?? What Nazi/Fascist crap is this?

To say that officials aren't concerned with ethnic catergorizing is a load of horse $*@%.
To say that people will be tagged based on their political views is totally recapturing the lingo of the Nazis! What's next, a "master race?"

Oh Mamma Kali don't let them say "Master Religion!"

Choice Is Clear... Nov 20th. at 12:45:31 pm EST

by Gary Penzler (Toronto) - wc_xemail

If to refuse would be upholding their own laws, then the choice is clear. Uphold the law.

If that decision leads to American trouble that causes airlines to suffer, then they take the U.S. to the world courts charging unfair trading practices.

A sovereign nation (or federation of sovereign nations) MUST be free to uphold their own laws as regard their own citizens, where those laws do not conflict with basic human rights and U.N. dictates. Case closed.

So It Begins? Nov 20th. at 12:41:11 pm EST

by Lailah (Michigan, USA) - wc_xemail

After I typed the headline, I suddenly remembered a grammatical concept from my Spanish class: imperfect past tense is used when you don't know exactly when something started or stopped (when I was young... or an emotion, for example) . I believe that if we had an imperfect tense, we would have to use it here. This BS began after 9-11, it began when the Democrats rolled over and refused to fight for our rights, it began when Bush was selected. I'm sick of seeing my rights disappear one-by-one and I'm sick of those elected to protect my rights doing nothing but showing their bellies in a submissive posture. Hey, Congress! I voted for the people that I did so that they would DO SOMETHING!!! And when i say do something, I mean stand up to Bush's tyranny. You know he's not going to stop until the entire world agrees with the US. He's treating our allies like suspects, as if we have to prepare for the EU attacking us next week. And to our allies, I feel that I must apologize for our "government."

And just remember:

War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength

Does It Matter Nov 20th. at 10:56:51 am EST

by SB (UK) - wc_xemail

Does it really matter? Well yes, but as the US is soon going to allow only people in with biometic passports (next year i think) , and as far as i have gathered that these will not be adavilbe for some years here in the uk, and in the EU. So the hole debate about breaking the data protection is not needed as people will not be able to go there anyway

W.a.r.e.s Radio...new York Report Nov 20th. at 10:45:04 am EST

by Ares hearthfire (ny, ny) - wc_xemail - Web

Thsi is an ARES radio report on the federal government and new lingo. after further research we have concluded that based on current politcal lingo the following terms can all be considered to mean fascist or bigot.

1 "anti-terror" - this fascist comment is made as an excuse to make unconstitutional laws and have people feel like they are not losing anything.

2 "traditional family values" this fascist term is used when discussing legislation that would push Judeo-Christian views on those of other religions without a choice. This is also a biggot statement from organizations that hate those that are not Christian and are looking for ways to get them out of the country or murder them.

3 "protection of marriage" this biggoted term is used as a means of slandering homosexuals. This means that legislation is being discussed that will keep one segment of citizens from persuing their happiness to the utmost. There is still no logical reason for this since straight people would not marry a gay person making this pointless as to how it effects straight people.

This is Ares Hearthfire reporting from New York City for W.A.R.E.S. New york...back to the newsroom...

So It Begins... Nov 20th. at 10:24:35 am EST

by Arwen Eaglewolf (Windy Wyoming) - wc_xemail

... the takeover of the world by King George and his cronies. I see it now ... the Empire of the United States of America. Hey, whatever happened to the last empire ... you know the Roman Empire. Oh yeah (can you feel the sarcasim) it fell. Hate to tell ya W, but this is not Rome, you are not the Ceasar, and the world is not yours for the taking.

*sadly shakes her head and wonders what will be next*
