Singing The Vagina Moonsong

Author: Marliss Weber Source: See Magazine (Canada)

Title: SINGING THE VAGINA MOONSONG
Before I have too much time to think about it, I find myself under an apple tree on a rainy October evening, offering up thanks to the Goddess for a beautiful full moon.
My fellow witches are a varied group. Lola (her ceremonial witch name, not her showgirl name) is a city employee, and is warm, motherly, and full of smiles. White Deer (also, to state the obvious, her witch name) is an anthropologist who carries herself with reserve and dignity. Trey Capnerhurst, my hostess for the evening, is keenly intelligent and full of zeal for her chosen path. And Maenwen, Trey’s beautiful eight-year-old daughter, is a child who makes you believe in fairies, and who is joining the all-adult ritual for the first time.
She says to me, blinking from the hood of her purple cloak, “This is my first full moon ritual.”
“Mine too,” I confess.

of the people in the article links on Alternet, this author does not purport to be speaking for a group, only reporting on her own experience. I can see why readers might object to statements like "the full moon is all about feminine power", and she probably should have qualified that (she could have said "in tonight's ritual ...) .
While I understand why guys might feel a little offended, I also have to laugh at how quick they are to jump on this harmless report of someone's experience. It reminds me of getting on Alternet & every time there's an article reporting on a woman's issue there are a zillion men on there whining about reverse sexism and insulting feminists.
While in the path I'm on, the moon is male, I'm certainly not offended by this article. And I hope that all of the men waiting impatiently for women to quit celebrating their own power so that male privilege can be re-established have to wait forever.

...I haven't seen anything like this in like 30 years. I thought we'd mostly outgrown this kind of 'all wimmin are natural witches' sort of dogma. Though I'm told by Canadian friends that most of the 'witchcraft' up there is more like what's called Goddess Spirituality down here in the states.
Well, don't let it twist your knickers too bad. Reading around the dogma, it sounds like it was a lovely experience for all concerned.

I resent the comparison of the Moon and our Goddess to "The Vagina Monologues." That play was one of the most boring things I've ever heard. The Moon isn't boring.

Ok, THIS is what happens when one combines rabid feminism and natural religions. I happen to be male AND controled by the moon myself, for a less than obvious reason: I have mental conditions. My mood is ruled by the moon phases. That is how people like me got the nickname lunatic, a title i wear proudly. Aside from honoring the moon for that reason, the moon gives me my healing powers, and without it, life would not exist. Btw, in some ancient cultures, the moon was ruled a masculine deity.
May you truly get what you need in life, Gordy

Ummmm, ok, if this is the sort of meaning this one particular author attributes to the full moon, so be it, but I really think she's doing the community at large a disservice by purporting her opinion of what it's "all about" as fact.
What about the men who celebrate moon rituals? Our faith isn't a girl's club, and it shouldn't be.
Women's wisdom needs to be celebrated, but men's does too. We're all in it together. That's a big problem many of us have had with the "Big3", uninclusive, and and unequal.
Once we start doing the same things that we dislike others doing ( exclusion, hegemony) we become the very thing we hate. Wrong + wrong is not equal rights.

It is far too early in the morning for this.
I mean, really. I haven't even had my first cup of caffeine yet.
Dearest Gods.
