Solstice - Some see first day of winter as spiritual turning point

Title: Solstice - Some see first day of winter as spiritual turning point
While some people light candles instead of cursing the darkness, others gathered in Vancouver on Wednesday night to celebrate both the darkness and the coming light. They marked the winter solstice, the end of dwindling daylight and the first day of winter.
Solstice observers walked a labyrinth at the Michael Servetus Unitarian Universalist Fellowship as they contemplated their path in life and the march of the seasons.
Donna Shaver of Vancouver said she found the walk surprisingly moving. "Basically, you're just walking along a piece of canvas," she said.
"And it starts to echo the twists and turns in your life."
