Manitoba Man Charged With Molesting Teens In Witchcraft Club

Title: MANITOBA MAN CHARGED WITH MOLESTING TEENS IN WITCHCRAFT CLUB
  Police have charged a man with molesting two Manitoba teens after he allegedly enticed them into joining his "witchcraft" club, the Free Press has learned.
Joseph Gerald Hermary, 42 - a previously convicted child pornographer - was arrested several weeks ago in British Columbia on a Canada-wide warrant.
He is facing several charges stemming from incidents in late 2006, including two counts of sexual assault and breaching court orders.

I've been saying for years that using the word "Witchcraft" to describe a religion is problematic. This is another example of why. If Wiccans did not also call themselves Witches, this man and his alleged acts would not be associated with Wiccans.
I know it's a losing battle, but if we simply separated the two concepts, and used witchcraft to describe "sorcery" or fictional magic, and Wicca or other words to describe religion, there would be a lot fewer misunderstandings.
I understand that magikal practice is part and parcel of Wicca. I also understand that many people are trying to "reclaim" the word Witch for themselves. Unfortunately, history is mistaken, and Witchcraft was NEVER used to describe a religion in the past. We're not reclaiming anything - we're just stubbornly banging our heads stubbornly against a ridiculous wall.
Kind of like the battle Satanists set themselves up for when they chose their name. Why set yourself up to be misunderstood?

I'm fairly certain this would of got press coverage regardless of the if the man used a different medium, in the news up here, it just wouldn't of got a mention on this site if it wasn't for the witchcraft mention

If this guy had used videogames or mp3 players to lure the kids would this have even made the news...?

I sincerely hope that they strip away the "witchcraft" business and focus on the fact that he is nothing but a sexual predator that deserves little consideration beyond what the law would allow.
