A ‘Hallowed Evening’

Author: Marcy Millette Source: The Nipawin Journal (Canada)

Title: A ‘HALLOWED EVENING’
Nov. 1st saw children of St. Eugene Church joining millions worldwide in the celebration of Christianity.
The night didn't conjure up images of Halloween at all, despite the time of year.
In spite of the attempt to Christianize the pagan feast, Caryl Matrisciana, author and renowned expert on world religions and occult practices, sounds the alarm for Christians everywhere.
"Historically, Halloween is steeped in Satanism and Witchcraft which goes back 4000 years ago. Druidic rites and ceremonies with which ‘Samhain’ was honored can still be recognized to this day. The Celtic tradition of Halloween (Samhain) includes the celebration of the last day of the year with the Festival of the Dead where Druid priests and witches call down the spirits of the dead to obtain more powers for the new year.

| New Powers? | Nov 14th. at 6:26:33 pm EST |

by Lord Baum (Durham, NH) - wc_xemail

What is this business that we are are supposed to gain "New Powers" at Samhain? No one mentioned that to me when I was initiated. I think this person must be getting Witchcraft information from watching "Charmed", since there are new powers every year for the "Charmed ones." Anyway, if anyone knows about a Samhain ritual that passes on "New Powers", please put it on-line.

The nerve!
I don't even know what to say to this. I just know that it makes be scorching mad! I mean, how can someone be so thick? Ok, I know they can, but it’s still a concept beyond me!
And I thought that the Kesztölcians were medieval...

by Miki Arisugawa (Georgia, USA) - wc_xemail

"A worldwide crusade of 1.8 million" people is not only sad, but it is most likely representative of the "expert" and her geographical region. Just out of curiosity, how does speaking a language make you an expert on anything but that language, much less the occult? Samhain is sacred and to see its good name besmirched in the name of hate really makes my blood boil. All this woman's lack of research does is sow the seeds of ignorance. Nothing good can come of this.

| Who Writes This Crap? | Nov 13th. at 10:54:27 pm EST |

Even I, new to the Craft as I am know what Samhain is about, even though here in the Southern Hemisphere we had Beltane while those of you in the Northern Hemisphere had Samhain. I just started studying the Craft and so far I like what I've read. I hope those people who write things that put down other religions realize that the same thing can be done to them. On a personal note I was born into a Christian family but I lost faith in that system of beliefs, I don't actually remember why but it happened seven years ago and I was an atheist until I found paganism just after Beltane, (or Samhain, whatever part of the world you're in) and I don't think I'll ever go back! Blessed Be Sage

do they get this sh*t?
"The Celtic tradition of Halloween (Samhain) includes the celebration of the last day of the year with the Festival of the Dead where Druid priests and witches call down the spirits of the dead to obtain more powers for the new year."
Just goes to show you that people are silly enough to believe anything they hear.

I've been doing it all wrong these many years? I'm suppose to be "gaining power from the dead" instead of communing with the spirits of my ancestors and my Gods? Boy, do I feel cheated. Forgive the above sarcasm, but this person is clearly a religious whack-job (like that wasn't obvious!) . It must be in the water. (said with apologies to all "normal" Canadians)

Girr...I am one of those people that doesnt let much bother me, but this waste of matter needs to be checked into a mental ward. I mean it is people like her all over the world that cause us problems...this is why terroist attack. Driven to a frenzy because someone tells them to strike at those that do not believe as they do. What next? The Christian version of a Jihad or group like that....oh wait...we have the KKK for that...sorry all...just I am tried of this bs. One day the wrong button will be pushed and then it will be witch trials again, but this time around I dont think any of us will just sit meekly by. I fear for that day. I hope it never comes, but it seems that way. More and more so as the years go on. The Fundies fear the lost of power they had for the last 60 years if I am correct if not let me know...They gained power now they do not wish to lose it. So to keep control over their "flock" and to bring new people in the do this crap...haveing complete control over how a person thinks...hmmm...smells like a cult to me...but they are a Christian belief system...girrrr...people like that and those t.vv faith healing upset me...i am a healer...it demeans my gift and the cost it comes with...anywho sorry...I dont rant this often, but boy... May the gods of all see you well, Chris

| Anal Retentive Grammar Lesson | Nov 13th. at 1:27:07 pm EST |

by Kelly Eagle (Albuquerque) - wc_xemail

The word is "CITE, " as in to reference outside information. The word is NOT "SITE, " as in the location of something. I, being anal retentive, lose respect for anyone who can't tell the difference, especially in this era of spell-check and grammar-check computers! The crap in the article itself isn't worthy of comment.

Kerr Cuhulain has pretty much discredited Caryl Matrisciana in articles on this site. I wonder if Fritz, Wren, & Kerr would mind if someone sent the Nipawin Journal a link to said articles. Unfortunately, I can't find those articles on this site, offhand. Opinions?

by Little Joe (A town neer you.) - wc_xemail

Another reason why me and my friends pull our pranks on peope we don't like (i.e. egging a house) on xmas eve instead of Halloween. Hey, I'm a teen, it's tradition to egg a house but even I don't like doing it on Halloween because if the stereotype associated with that night. I'm thinking maybe I'll start a new trend with the youth.

I cannot believe the continued ignorance of some people. I emailed this lady asking how someone who claims to be an "expert" actually knows so little. We'll see if she responds LOL!
