Durham Won't Restrict Access To Book

Author: Tess Kalinowski Source: Toronto Star

Title: DURHAM WON'T RESTRICT ACCESS TO BOOK
The board that temporarily exiled Harry Potter from its schools six years ago is leaving a controversial book of interviews with Palestinian and Israeli children on its library shelves.
"Certainly at this point we're not pulling (Three Wishes) from the (Silver Birch reading) program or off the shelf," Durham District School Board chair Michael Barrett said yesterday.
The book by Deborah Ellis was recommended by the Ontario Library Association as part of its school-based Silver Birch reading program, aimed at Grade 4 to 6 students.
But following a request by the Canadian Jewish Congress to review the choice, several Ontario public boards, including Toronto and York, deemed it inappropriate for that age level.
The Toronto District School Board has removed it from elementary library shelves and instructed its schools to keep Three Wishes in the librarian's office where only Grade 7 and 8 students will be allowed to borrow it.

You know, money just can't buy the kind of wonderful advertising that censorship offers, lol. I think all authors ought to pay someone to start up controversy over their books. That way they will sell more. It worked for J.K. Rowling!
